Testing Gen 5 ASIC with the SBExpress-DT4

Updated: Apr 20, 2021

By: Patty Brogdon | April 16, 2021 | SANBlaze

Most NVMe developers start their initial designs in an ASIC, populated on a PCIe add-in-card (AIC).

With the PCIe slot in the SANBlaze SBExpress-DT4, designers can expose their ASIC prototype to complete a rigorous set of compliance test suites provided by SANBlaze. The SBExpress-DT4 allows developers to test right on their desktop, focusing on just a few drives.

Performing early Gen5 ASIC testing is as simple as plugging in a Gen5 ASIC drive into the AIC PCIe slot on the SBExpress-DT4 (see below).

Test Early Gen5 ASIC by using the SANBlaze SBExpress-DT4 PCIe Slot

As you can see, there is no need to wait for the Gen5 versions of the SBExpress-DT and SBExpress-RM if you want to do early Gen5 ASIC testing. You can use the Gen4 PCIe slot on the SBExpress-DT4 today to perform early Gen5 ASIC testing.

The SANBlaze software offers comprehensive NVMe testing via the Certified by SANBlaze test suite, including scripts for testing NVMe commands and UNH-IOL conformance test plans.

Conformance and Compliance Testing

SANBlaze offers conformance test suites for native NVMe and NVMe-MI that are based on the conformance test plans developed by the Interoperability Lab at UNH. For reference, these test plans are available at https://www.iol.unh.edu/testing/storage/nvme/test-plans.

The SANBlaze conformance scripts are a great way to test your device’s compliance with the NVMe specification. The scripts have been updated to include the v1.4 NVMe specification and the v1.1 NVMe-MI specification.
