SANBlaze Demonstrates NVMe Target Emulation over RoCE and Fibre Channel at UNH Plug Fest

Thursday, June 21, 2018. Littleton, MA ––SANBlaze Technology, Inc. announced today that it successfully demonstrated NVMe target emulation over RoCE and Fibre Channel at the University of New Hampshire’s first ever plug fest for NVMe-oF™ (NVMe over Fabrics).

The NVMe-oF Plug Fest was held this week, June 18-22 2018, at the UNH-IOL facility in Durham, NH USA. Attendees were able to see real-world testing of NVMe over RoCE and NVMe over Fibre Channel on both initiators and targets using SANBlaze’s testing platform.

"SANBlaze tools give users the ability to test NVMe over the full range of transport options, from NVMe over Fibre Channel, to NVMe over Ethernet with RDMA based on both RoCE and iWARP,” said Vince Asbridge, President of SANBlaze Technology.  “The SANBlaze emulation system for NVMe will validate the capability of a SAN or network infrastructure to carry NVMe traffic alongside FCP and Ethernet traffic, and verify the compatibility of NVMe with your existing equipment.”

The SANBlaze NVMe platform not only helps customers test NVMe in their current environment, but also helps in the selection of which protocol or transport to choose.

“Questions like ‘Should I run NVMe on Fibre Channel or 25/50/100G Ethernet?’, ‘How will my network hardware handle routing RoCE and iWarp traffic?’ and ‘How will my network scale to hundreds of NVMe targets?’ can be difficult to answer without the SANBlaze emulation system, which can emulate all these scenarios before needing to commit to a transport or vendor,” said Vince Asbridge.  “Our work with UNH at the plug fest validates that the SANBlaze emulation system accurately represents actual NVMe targets on all available transports."

Customers agree. Barry Maskas, Storage Networks Hewlett Packard Enterprise technical consultant, deploys SANBlaze VirtuaLUN products in his development lab, at trade shows, and at plug fests to jumpstart end-to-end integration of new technologies.

“I use the SANBlaze VirtuaLUN for conformance, interoperability, and performance validations with FC and FC-NVMe, iSCSI, and NVMe-oF RDMA RoCE V1 and V2, because of early availability, ease of use, and outstanding support,” Barry Maskas said.  “This week at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), VirtuaLUN FC-NVMe and NVMe-oF RoCE RDMA initiators and targets enabled the successful testing of end-to-end interoperability and conformance of NVMe-oF technologies.”
